Help and troubleshooting for the Tow Jam browser extension.

Getting Started

Tow Jam works by capturing job data from your Salesforce Field Service dispatch page and auto-filling it into TowBooks. Here's how to get up and running:

  1. Install the Extension — Add Tow Jam to your browser from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
  2. Open Salesforce Field Service Dispatch — Navigate to your dispatch page as you normally would. Tow Jam will automatically detect job listings.
  3. Click "Copy to TowBook" — Select a job from the floating menu and click the copy button. The job data is captured.
  4. TowBooks Auto-Fills — TowBooks opens (or is focused) and the new call form is populated with the captured data. Review and submit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The floating menu doesn't appear on the Salesforce page.

Make sure the Extension is enabled in your browser. Check your browser's extension settings and verify Tow Jam is toggled on. Also confirm you are on a Salesforce Field Service dispatch page — the menu only appears on supported domains.

TowBooks doesn't auto-fill after I click "Copy to TowBook."

Ensure you have a TowBooks tab already open or that pop-ups are allowed so the Extension can open one. If the tab opens but fields aren't filled, try refreshing TowBooks and copying the job again. The auto-fill waits for the page to fully load before populating fields.

The vehicle information isn't parsing correctly.

The Extension supports 80+ vehicle makes and 40+ color names. If the vehicle string from Salesforce is in an unusual format, some fields may not parse correctly. You can manually edit the auto-filled fields or use the field-by-field copy buttons on the info panel to copy individual values.

The job type was mapped incorrectly in TowBooks.

The Extension maps Salesforce service types to TowBooks equivalents (e.g., "Battery Jumpstart" becomes "Jump Start"). If a mapping doesn't match your needs, you can manually change the job type in the TowBooks form before submitting. Report any consistently incorrect mappings to our support email so we can update them.

How do I clear the stored job data?

Click the "Clear Data" button available in the Extension's info panel on the TowBooks page. This removes all temporarily stored job data from Chrome's local storage. Data is also automatically overwritten when you copy a new job.

The Extension stopped working after a Salesforce or TowBooks update.

Platform updates can occasionally change page structures that the Extension relies on. Contact us at the email below so we can investigate and push an update. In the meantime, you can use the manual field-by-field copy as a fallback.

Can I use this Extension with browsers other than Chrome?

Tow Jam is available for both Chrome and Firefox. It may also work on Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge, but this is not officially supported.

Troubleshooting Steps

If you're experiencing issues, try these steps in order:

  1. Confirm the Extension is enabled in your browser's extension settings.
  2. Refresh both the Salesforce and TowBooks tabs.
  3. Clear the stored data using the "Clear Data" button and copy the job again.
  4. Check the Chrome DevTools console (F12) for any error messages and include them in your support request.
  5. Disable other extensions temporarily to rule out conflicts.
  6. Uninstall and reinstall the Extension as a last resort.
